I went to bed when it was 2-1 Avs as Varlamov was stoning everyone especially Sharp. What a nice suprise to check out the score at 4:45 this morning And I have to be honest I was telling the wife..."That Carcillo is useless" glad to see him get the winner but yes great work down low on that one!

50% of the season is gone and the Hawks have only lost 3 shootouts. When the actual sport of hockey has been played they are undefeated.

This is mind blowing.

The depth is sure to be tested. Hoping we hear aboust Shaw and Sahrp soon.

Any Avalanche fan crying about Bollands slash should just look at the MAjor elbowing penalty that was missed when Stasny ended Shaws night.

Hahahaha first time hearing "Gorilla Salad", burst out laughing.

Here's a question, why is Frolik playing so low on the depth chart? Even on a deep team like the hawks, I'd have thought him worthy of a second or third line role.

Also glad to see Emery doing well, wish he could've learned to keep it together in Ottawa.

Frolik works really hard out there, gets tons of chances but for some reason can never, ever finish.

He's great on the PK brings a lot of energy but not really worthy of second line.

Could the Hawks be interested in a player like Gionta or Bourque ?

It was scary how large a hole Hossa leaves when he's not playing.

You see people implying that if the Hawks keep extending the winning streak that it poses a risk to their playoff run. That is only partially true. Joel Quenneville can turn that into a non issue.

The only way this awesome streak can be a disadvantage to the Hawks is if Quenneville shortens his bench and over extends his players in an effort to keep the streak going.

Injuries happen no matter how well a coach uses his lineup depth but the 92-93 Penguins were guilty of over utilizing their top 4 defensemen as well as their top forwards in an effort to keep the streak alive. They ran out of gas which ultimately cost what IMO, would/should have been a Gretzky vs. Lemieux SCF.

If Quenneville can avoid over extending his best players, this streak is nothing but great for the team.

Very valid point! And Quenneville is doing the opposite giving more and more ice time to the 3rd and 4th lines. Like last night in the dying seconds the 4th line is on the ice and scores the game winner.

Not going to shorten then bench. In the last post I think soneone posted Keiths ice time at 22 minutes when last year I think it was 29 minutes.
Carcillo was on the ice in the last minute last night.

Awesome accomplishment by Emery.

Carcillo potting the winner was great.

To me, this was the first truly unbelievable win. Hossa, Sharp and Shaw get hurt, Colorado skates and plays hard... and DAN CARCILLO wins the game late.

Nothing would surprise me anymore.

Congratulations on gaining a point in all of your games in the first half of a strike shortened season. Imagine the accolades for a baseball team that won the first 50 games of a strike shortened 100 game season. That is about the equivalent of your teams accomplishment.

It is scary and I noticed it too. I hope he's back soon.

The way Sharp was holding his arm as he was skating off, man, that did not look good.

That's smart. It appears to be a non issue then. Kudos to Quenneville for keeping the big picture in focus.

Also by giving the 3rd and 4th line players important minutes as the streak keeps going on, it gives those players extreme confidence and a feel of self worth. Case in point the 4th line coming up big last night. Everybody feels like they have a hand in every victory. A terrific dynamic of camaraderie that is usually only obtained during a playoff run, not before it.

I was surprised that the linesman helped Sharp to the bench, but didn't envoke hos power to suggest a call for his hit to the head.

Yeah, Shaw looked loopy a several shifts after the dirty play by Stastny.

I am sure eventually Shaw evens that up at later time or some one rights that one on Friday...I really thought it was uncalled for one.
Andrew Shaw gets froggy with lots of wall work, and some is bordrline, but even his hit on Phoenix goalie Smith didn't seem as bad as Stastny's.

The important thing now is to just get these guys healthy...

...and think it will be Montador on the wing on Friday...

First thought is to roll with Smith on the fourth line. Good forchecker, provides speed and energy and could fit there. I don't love Car Bomb on line 2 but I think him and Smith can be interchangeable. Though I kind of like the size and goal scoring ability of Hayes on line 2. Also like Morin's goal scoring ability on 2 as well. It'll be interesting to see what they do.

Patrick Kane is playing the best defesnse in his life and leads the team in goals. Thats not coincidence. If you backcheck hard your team has the puck more and hence you score more.
